The 25 who did the most when the card said it mattered.
Pay-per-view, championship, title change, main-event position, and a promotion strong enough that year for the match to carry weight — every one of those learned from the corpus.
Importance is not typed in. A match earns it by being on a pay-per-view, by carrying a championship, by changing one, by sitting late on the card, and by happening in a promotion whose roster that year was strong enough for any of it to matter, and every one of those weights is learned from the corpus rather than assigned. Big-match value is what a wrestler did in the matches that cleared the bar.
The list is not the top of the All-Time board with the order shuffled, which is what a big-match measure usually produces. Hiroshi Tanahashi leads it at 38.8, ahead of John Cena and Cody Rhodes. A.J. Lee is fourth, from 427 documented matches and an all-time rank of #572. Chad Gable is fifth on a losing career. Hiro Saito is twelfth at #1,942 overall, Kendo Kashin seventeenth at #1,616, and Osamu Nishimura closes the board at #1,508.
What separates those names from the wrestlers immediately around them on the main list is not that they were better. It is that the ratio held: the version of them that turned up on the biggest shows outperformed expectation by more than the everyday version did, over enough matches for it to stop looking like luck.
38.8, the top figure on this board. Two Tokyo Dome nights carry most of it: the IWGP Heavyweight Championship off Keiji Muto at Wrestle Kingdom III in 2009, worth +0.69, and off Kenny Omega at Wrestle Kingdom 13, rated 5.75 stars, worth +0.78, each at 1.90 importance. The overall rank is #47, which is what 2,932 documented matches will do when a great many of them are nights the card said nothing about. 388 are rated, and 96 title-match wins include 59 top-decile belts.
Championship value of 316.0 ranks #1 in the corpus and so does the Titles component, which is the context this figure sits in: 295 title-match wins, and 288 of them carry a top-decile belt. The two heaviest are twenty years apart in the record, the WWE World Championship off A.J. Styles at the 2017 Royal Rumble at 2.12 importance, and the Undisputed WWE Championship off Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 41 at 2.18, +0.88. Second on this board and #2 overall. 1,186 wins in 1,554 documented matches.
The single biggest credit here is a 0.25 star tables match: the Intercontinental Championship off The Big Show at Extreme Rules 2012, +0.78 at an importance of 1.91. Twelve years later WrestleMania XL and both world titles off Roman Reigns pay +0.57 at 2.18 in a match rated 4.75. The board is not measuring how good the match was, and those two lines are the proof. Third here, #4 overall, on 270 title-match wins and a championship value of 224.0. 916 wins across 1,721 documented matches.
Fourth on this measure and #572 among the qualified overall, with Quality at #1,925 and Titles at #116, which is four hundred and fifty-six places above the career. The Divas Championship is what the model is reading: off Kaitlyn at Payback 2013 at an importance of 1.87, off Paige on Raw in June 2014, then out of a three-way at Night of Champions the same year at 2.13. 55 top-decile belts among 61 title-match wins. Only 22 matches are rated, and the corpus has years in 10 of the 19 between the first and the last.
Two Intercontinental Championship challenges against WALTER in 2023 pay +0.94 and +0.95 without the belt moving, which is the measure working as designed: the card said the match mattered, and the numbers said he should lose it. The title itself arrives at Summerslam 2026, off Pentagon Jr., a 4.25 star match at an importance of 2.09. Fifth here on a losing record of 352-385-6, with the big-match component at #74 and the overall rank #95. Quality ranks #51.
Titles ranks #25 against an overall #76, fifty-one places apart, off 210 title-match wins of which 204 are top-decile. The heaviest single night is Hell in a Cell 2013 and the United States Championship against Dean Ambrose, +0.86 at 1.74 importance; the NXT Championship came off Seth Rollins the previous December at 1.82. Later there is the eight-way Money in the Bank ladder match in 2021, 4.75 stars and a quality lift of 1.50, and the WWE Championship defence against Drew McIntyre at Crown Jewel. Fourteen documented years, 627 wins from 1,068 matches.
Thirty-six documented years and 2,832 matches, and the seventh-best return on the nights that counted. The IWGP Heavyweight Championship came off Yoshihiro Takayama at Yokohama Dead Out in 2003 and off Genichiro Tenryu in a 4.25 star match the following February, both at an importance of 1.90. Forty top-decile belts sit among 47 title-match wins, and Titles ranks #219 with the overall rank at #395 among the qualified. Quality ranks #361. The upsets go back to an arm-wrestling card in Tokyo in April 1993.
Four days in February 2005 supply the two heaviest credits in a 36-year record: the AJPW Triple Crown Title off Toshiaki Kawada, rated 4.75 stars, then a defence against Hiroyoshi Tenzan with the IWGP Heavyweight Championship also at stake, both at an importance of 1.90. Nine years later the NWA World Heavyweight Title changed hands at Wrestle Kingdom 8 in a match rated 2.0 stars, worth +0.72. Eighth here, #74 overall, 3,111 documented matches with 256 rated. Titles ranks #111 and career K-WAR #47.
Money in the Bank 2011 is the biggest credit at an importance of 2.18: the WWE Championship off John Cena in a 5.0 star match with the contract expiring that night. Around it sit the 2009 submission win over The Undertaker at Breaking Point, +0.84 at 1.98, and the World Heavyweight Championship off Edge on Raw a year earlier. Fourteen years after Chicago, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship came off WALTER at Summerslam 2025. Ninth here, #12 overall, Titles #9, and a championship value of 200.1.
Titles ranks #1,208 on a championship value of 3.8, and the big-match figure ranks #10, which is nine hundred and twenty-five places of disagreement inside one row. What the model is paying for is the Open The Brave Gate Title, taken off Ricochet at Dead Or Alive 2012 and off Eita at Dangerous Gate 2018, each at an importance of 1.77. None of the 55 title-match wins is top-decile. 2,988 documented matches over 30 years and only 18 of them rated, which is 0.6%. Quality still ranks #129.
A 41.4% career, 314-435-10, and Titles at #71 against an overall #152. Two pay-per-view nights do most of it: the WWE Championship match with Randy Orton at Bragging Rights 2010, +0.90 at an importance of 1.98, and the Intercontinental Championship against Dean Ambrose at Fastlane 2015, +0.88 at 1.85. Neither is rated above 1.75 stars, and Quality ranks #781. Ten documented years, 2007 to 2016, and 85 title-match wins with 76 top-decile belts under them.
Career K-WAR of -37.0, #3,284, and the twelfth-best return on the biggest nights anybody has. The whole case is May 1985: the WWF Junior Heavyweight Title off George Takano at 1.73 importance, then a defence against Tony St. Clair eleven days later at 1.61. Titles ranks #840, one thousand one hundred and two places above an overall #1,947 among the qualified, off only 8 title-match wins. Thirty-five documented years, 1980 to 2020, and 35 rated matches in 1,518.
All 28 title-match wins are for a top-decile belt, which is unusual this far down a board, and the reason is that almost all of them are the NWA World Heavyweight Title. It came off Rick Rude in the 1992 G1 final, 4.5 stars and +0.80 at an importance of 1.82, and was defended against Keiji Muto at StarrCade that December in a match the raters gave 1.0. Thirteenth here and #448 among the qualified overall, on 1,065 wins from 1,764 documented matches across 31 years.
WrestleMania XL and the Women's Championship off Io Shirai in a 4.5 star match, +0.84 at an importance of 2.11, is the heaviest single night. Before it, Money in the Bank 2019 and the Smackdown Women's Title off Charlotte Flair at 2.02; before that, TakeOver: Brooklyn in 2015 and the NXT Women's Title off Sasha Banks. Fourteenth on the measure and #67 overall, with Titles at #50 on a championship value of 103.3. Sixteen documented years, 544 wins from 894 matches, 84 of them rated.
SummerSlam 2013 and the WWE Championship off John Cena, +0.92 at an importance of 2.13, with Triple H refereeing. Eleven years later, the AEW World Championship off Shane Strickland at All In London in a 5.25 star title-versus-career match at 2.18. Between them the TLC cash-in on The Big Show in 2011. Fifteenth on the measure while the overall rank is #5, which reads oddly until you notice Titles at #24 and Quality at #10: this is a career where every measure is high and this one is merely the lowest of them.
Titles ranks #149 where the overall rank is #387 among the qualified, and the belts arrive on the biggest cards available. Money In The Bank 2022 took the Smackdown Women's Title off Ronda Rousey at 2.11 importance and paid +0.84; King And Queen Of The Ring 2024 took the Women's World Title off Becky Lynch; WrestleMania 42 took it again off Stephanie Vaquer in a match rated 2.0 stars. Sixteenth here, on 282 wins from 549 documented matches and 41 of 52 title-match wins top-decile.
Career K-WAR of -28.9, #2,899, and the seventeenth-best return on the nights the card called big. Titles ranks #977 against #1,618 inside the qualified pool, off 21 title-match wins with none of them top-decile. The two credits carrying it are All Japan's junior belt in 2002: off Masanobu Fuchi at the Grand Champion Carnival at 1.93 importance, then a defence against Gran Hamada that July at 1.76. Thirty-one documented years, 41 rated matches in 1,072.
The model files this one as a Big-Match Specialist: 99 on that component against an 88 average across the six. King of the Ring 1998 and the WWF World Heavyweight Title off Steve Austin in a First Blood match is the heaviest credit at an importance of 2.18; Money in the Bank 2010 and the World Heavyweight Championship off Rey Mysterio pays +0.76 at 2.02. Quality ranks #2,010 and Titles #35 with the overall rank at #426 among the qualified. 988 wins from 1,974 documented matches over 28 years.
A 42.8% career, 405-526-15, and Titles at #103 against an overall #118. The credits are cruiserweight and ECW: the WWE Cruiserweight Title off Rey Mysterio at No Way Out 2004 at an importance of 2.04, the ECW World Heavyweight Title off CM Punk in January 2008 at 1.82 and +0.82. The biggest upset is older, a 1998 Great American Bash win over Eddie Guerrero worth +0.94. Thirty documented years across four decades, 83 rated matches in 946, and 66 of 71 title-match wins are top-decile.
Two championship nights against men the model had well ahead: John Cena in a tables match at TLC 2009, +0.91 at an importance of 2.00, and Roman Reigns at Survivor Series 2015, +0.90 at 2.18. Both changed hands. Titles ranks #7 and the overall rank is #15, on 226 title-match wins with 214 for a top-decile belt and a championship value of 211.9. Twentieth here. 895 wins in 1,595 documented matches, 159 of them rated, across 19 documented years.
A 69.9% career across only 389 documented matches, and Titles at #172, one hundred and twenty-eight places above a qualified-pool rank of #300. Full Gear 2023 took the AEW Women's Championship off Hikaru Shida at an importance of 1.96; All In: Texas in 2025 defended it against Sasha Banks at 4.75 stars and 1.91. Before either, the SWA Undisputed World Women's Title came off Io Shirai in Osaka in 2016 at +0.85. Twenty-first on the measure, with 51 rated matches and 24 of 71 title-match wins top-decile.
18.664 on this measure, #22, and none of the 83 title-match wins under it is for a top-decile belt. The whole figure is the IWGP Women's Title: off Sasha Banks at All-Star Grand Queendom in April 2023 at an importance of 1.86, defended against Stephanie Vaquer in Texas that November at 1.95, then against Syuri, Sareee and Momo Watanabe in matches rated 4.75. Only 26 of 1,093 documented matches carry a rating, 2.4%, and Titles ranks #406 while the overall rank is #223.
SummerSlam 2018 and the Universal Championship off Brock Lesnar, +0.92 at an importance of 2.18, in a match the raters put at 2.5 stars. Eight years later, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship off CM Punk at WrestleMania 42 at the same importance and 5.0 stars. Twenty-third here against #7 overall, which is the lowest of his measures rather than a weakness: 173 top-decile belts among 179 title-match wins; championship value 204.0. A 69.0% career, 809-329-34, over 17 documented years.
Titles ranks #586 against #1,128 of the qualified pool, and not one of the 39 title-match wins is top-decile. The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title is the whole story: off Koji Kanemoto in April 2003, off Low Ki at Wrestle Kingdom III at an importance of 1.64, off Mistico at Destruction 2009 at 1.71. Career K-WAR is -10.1, #1,342, across 2,325 documented matches and 31 years with 171 of them rated. The biggest upset is a 1999 win over The Great Sasuke in Michinoku Pro.
The board closes on 9 title-match wins worth 4.2 in championship value, #1,152, which is three hundred and fifty-eight places above an overall #1,508 among the qualified. The heaviest credit is a 1.5 star win over Riki Choshu on a New Japan pay-per-view in February 2005, +0.62 at 1.41 importance. The upsets are older and larger: Salvatore Sincere in 1994 at +0.99, Tatsuhito Takaiwa in 1992 at +0.96, Akitoshi Saito in 1995 at +0.95. Thirty-three documented years, 42 rated matches in 1,554, and a career K-WAR of -22.7.
